Competition

Palm Beach has a long history of competition, from Sunday races to Branch, State and National events. We are always looking at ways to involve more members in training and competition, and are proud to support a diverse team of Cadets, Opens, Masters, and Surf Boat Rowers. All members are welcomed to the Annual Trivia Night, which raises the funds to send our competitors to the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships on the Gold Coast.

New members are eased into competition through our club races, aka White Horse Cup. These are fun events run every Sunday throughout the season, and include five short events; surf swim; board; ski; run; and flags. On top of this, we host club marathon events, and the revered Jack Carter Cup, which combines all the marathon events in one race.

Since our first female members joined the club, Palm Beach women have always impressed. They have won back-to-back Australian gold medals in open women’s surf boats, and now represent a large proportion of the rowing squad. They are also well represented in the Masters events, and are set to defend their gold medals at the Australian Championships.

The Palm Beach “Green Cap” symbolises the determination and mateship of past, current and future members. To wear the “Green Cap” is to honour and believe in the mantra, “One team, on dream”.
